Advantages and Disadvantages of Neck Lifts

Advantages and Disadvantages of Neck Lifts

There are a specific set of procedures which go into the overall process of a neck lift. There may be altering or removing of neck muscles, removing excess skin, liposuction, and botox. The liposuction is used if there are fat deposits and botox is used to treat bands or lines around the neck. The purpose of a neck lift is to remove jowls, the double chin, or “turkey neck” appearance and it mainly helps individuals to get some of their youthful look back. A neck lift will make the neck appear more sculpted and tighten the skin around the neck as well as the chin. The procedure may be used alongside a face lift. As with most such medical procedures—especially those involving surgery, there are a series of advantages and disadvantages which come along.

Advantages

The most obvious advantages of a neck lift are the primary effects it has—to create a look that is younger and even possibly thinner. Those who have lost quite a bit of weight may still struggle with some appearance issues, as excess fat stretches the skin and that skin remains loose after the pounds are gone. A neck lift can remove that excess skin. A neck lift has generally lasting effects. These results may start to deteriorate after about two or three years.

A neck lift has the potential of significantly improving the appearance of the jawline and neck, and it will offer a much more youthful profile.

If an individual is just looking for a small touch up rather than drastic change, a neck lift is also a good option. It does not result in the same tightness which is experienced with a face lift.

On the other hand, if a person is seeking a full makeover a neck lift can be done in addition to brow and/or face lifts. This may shave many years off of a person’s appearance.

Scarring is very minimal and often unnoticeable, as incisions are usually made under the chin or behind the ears.

Disadvantages

there are of course some risks involved with a neck lift, which is true of any surgery. If you are allergic to anesthetics be sure to tell your doctor. The recovery process is generally accompanied by swelling and bruising, and infection is possible.

Most medical insurances don’t cover neck lifts because it is thought of as a cosmetic procedure. The exact cost of the procedure depends upon the facility but it can be quite expensive.

One should not exercise for several weeks after the neck lift has taken place. An individual will also need to take a minimum of 10 days off of work. For some people these inconveniences may prove difficult or stressful.

It is possible that one’s neck may feel tight or uncomfortable after surgery and this may last for months. There may be bleeding or fluid accumulation.

If an individual has only had a neck lift without any attention to other aged-areas, such as the face, it may make those areas more noticeable.
