As we get older we our body changes; our muscles start to weaken and our skin loses the elasticity of its youth. While this has several implications for our overall health it can result in loose and sometimes unsightly lose skin around the neck area. This can be extremely frustrating to experience as it seems like a permanent condition that may require surgery for correction. However if you find yourself in this position there are naturally ways that you can reduce this loose skin over time. Here are a few of my favorite techniques.
- Facial Exercises – One of the best defenses against sagging skin is completing facial exercises. Get in the habit of working your chest, neck and jawline muscles to reduce the chances of skin sagging and maintain its firmness. There are several exercises to choose from but the one that I use the most goes as follows. Sit down in a chair and tilt your head back so as to look at the ceiling with your mouth closed. In this position start the chewing process like you would if you had gum in your mouth. This exercise will help strengthen your facial muscles and prevent the growth of sagging skin. Keep in mind that there are a range of facial exercises that can help remediate sagging skin so try a variety to see what works best for you.
- Diet – As with many aspects of health, diet and exercise play a key role in reducing some of the issues brought along with aging. By consuming a large amount of fruits and veggies you are increasing the number of antioxidants in your body which helps to maintain skin elasticity. Additionally eating food that is high in protein (for eg. Dairy, beans, eggs, seeds, and fish) can help to maintain skin elasticity as they contain collagen and elastin. It has also been shown that sagging skin and wrinkles can the result of dehydration. Therefore by increasing your alter intake you can help to diminish the appearance of sagging skin.
- Use anti-aging treatments – To reduce signs of sagging it is important to develop a routine of taking care of your skin. Firstly apply an astringent like witch hazel or tea tree oil to help the skin get firmer. Additionally be sure to regularly exfoliate and moisturize your skin to help your skin to generate new skin cells faster and slow down the aging process. There are also several natural remedies like rose water, lemon juice, honey, cucumber, aloe Vera that can be used as facial masks to help repair and tighten your skin. One of my favorite facial masks uses one egg white, yeast powder, a table spoon of rose hip oil and plain yogurt. First mixt these together well then place the firming mask to affected areas. Allow the mask to dry before rinsing of and over time you will see skin that is more firm.
Loose skin is without a doubt one of the frustrating aspects of getting older. Taking steps to correct loose skin can be difficult as it is not always clear what methods will actually be effective over time. However before you decide to do surgery it is important that you try using these techniques to see what works for you. Most of all you will need to be patient as these things take time; your muscles need to face resistance in order to strengthen over time. If you do decide to go ahead with surgery be sure to do your research, surgery can have many effects on your body and you want to make sure that you are aware of these consequences before you start. Whatever you decide know that you have options and loose skin can be remedied.
