When a part of the brain loses its blood supply and stops working a stroke occurs. There are mainly two types of strokes. They are the ischaemic strokes and the hemorrhagic strokes.
Ischaemic strokes are the most common type of stroke. This occurs when a blood clot blocks the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain. These blood clots normally form near the narrow areas of the arteries, these are also known as plaques. This process is known as atherosclerosis. And ischaemic stoke occur due to excessive intake of alcohol, due to hypertension or high blood pressure, due to overweight and obesity conditions. And also ischaemic strokes may arise due to high cholesterol levels in blood. When fat deposits in the arteries and arterioles strokes may occur. And also diseases such as diabetes ill lead to an ischaemic stroke.
Another condition that arise to an ischaemic stroke is the irregular heart beat pattern of the heart. This is called as atrial fibrillation. This occurs when blood clots in the heart break up escape from the heart and become stuck in the blood vessels which supplies blood to the brain. The atrial fibrillation may occur due to heart valve disease, coronary heart disease, overactive thyroid gland and lung disease.
The other type of stroke is the hemorrhagic stroke. This also known as cerebral hemorrhages or intracranial hemorrhages. This condition occurs when the blood vessel in the skull bursts and starts to bleed into and around the brain. The main cause for the hemorrhagic stroke is due to high blood pressure. Due to high blood pressure the arteries in the brain become weak ad due to that thy pone to split or rupture. Hemorrhagic stroke cause due to many reasons. This disease will cause due to overweight and obesity. And also intake of excess alcohol will also cause a stroke. Smoking and intake of tobacco will lead to a hemorrhagic stroke. And also exercise adequate sleep and rest is also important. Lack of exercise, stress and depression conditions will lead to hemorrhagic stroke.
The other factors that may cause a stroke are, the age. If you are above 65 years you will have a higher possibility of getting a stroke. And if you a close relative of a person who has had a stroke, then there will be a high risk of getting a stroke. And also if you are an Asian, African or a South Asian you will have a higher risk of getting strokes than other people. This is because people in those countries have a higher sugar level in their blood and also they have a higher blood pressure than other people. And if you have previously have had a stroke or a heart attack, you will have a risk of getting the stroke again. Also it is important to know that men have a higher risk of stroke than women. Women most likely to get strokes when they get older.
